Fitness expert and author Bill Phillips knows how to build up your resolve and your body during all temptations and distractions. Follow his fitness advice to enjoy some treats while still being able to look in the mirror and smile.
1. Make the decision to be healthy. No one is responsible for your health but you. Acknowledge your power in determining your well-being.
2. Plan to make your health a priority. Before your day begins, decide what you will eat and when you will work out. Reducing meals “on the fly” helps you make better choices.
3. Get specific. Only specific, measurable goals with a timeline and deadline will keep you on track. Don’t use “get in shape” as your goal. Define what “get in shape” means to you. How many pounds do you want to lose? How much time will it take? What do you want your cholesterol levels to be? Specific goals motivate and empower (especially when you see progress).
4. Eat six small nutrient-rich, calorie-sparse meals a day. Drink 80 ounces of water a day. Make one day a week a “free day” when you can eat what you want. When you enjoy your favorite foods once a week, your long-term goals are more reasonable.
5. Commit to your workout schedule just like you would a meeting with your boss or an appointment with your doctor. Treat it like there are negative consequences if you skip—because there are!

Bill has some excellent tips. Make use of them.

Ten Pounds Down, 140 to Go

WOWY exercise log: late night jan 27th, 2009. stomach was pretty icky so i went with the elliptical, just in case I had to run for the bathroom again. 8.4 kms managed to get up over 50 rpm but couldn't keep it there yet.
Diet Log: toasted bagel (140 cal) with 2 tsp cream cheese and coffee with tsp creamer (10 cal) for breakfast
lunch was ham and split pea soup- progresso from the can, around 6 saltine crackers give or take
dinner was spagetti w/ home made sauce.. later snack spagetti with home made sauce and a glass of 2% milk
unfortunately my stomach blew up ... ugh
General: Truthfully I’ve had a bit of a crappy attitude ever since the weather shifted into full blown cold winter. It was 10 below zero on my window thermometer between 5 and 6 this morning. Ugh. Frankly that is too bloody cold. We have around a foot of snow on the ground. I fed the dogs a hot food today. Everyone seems to be doing ok. Bloody braker tripped to the whelping house. The hairballs in there aren't used to the cold like the others are. Fortunately it didn't trip last night; it had to be sometime this afternoon. I know this because their water wasn't frozen solid. It did get down to freezing before I caught it. Its back on now, I am going to check it again before I go to bed, and when I get up in the night to stoke the wood stove.
Frankly I'm glad I don't have any puppies in there. Some seniors, and some young dogs and one teenager, so to speak. He is such a trip. They are all pissed because I won't let them out in the play yards to play. Since they aren't acclimated it is too cold.
The big dogs that are outside are doing fine; they really like that hot food. I need to tweak my recipe a bit but it is doing the trick now. I've been taking my recipe and mixing it in with dry dog food and pouring very hot water over it. Makes hot rich gravy. Don't want to use too much of the recipe, it would be too rich. Seems to be working pretty well with the dry food as a base though. I'll really have to watch it if I continue it over the summer. Serve just enough so they will clean it up quickly. Don't want spoilage.
I am going to be so glad when we get our house built, and I can convert this one completely into the kennel office and kennels. That will be so nice.
I’m getting pretty excited about Team Beachbody. As far as getting in shape, I couldn’t ask for more. Excellent workouts, fitness tips, diet information, nutrition products, message board support, excellent across the board. They even have a program that deals with type II diabetes. No I am not diabetic, but someone I love very much is. On the business side, wow!
Excellent product line, excellent product support, top notch business support, excellent pay plan. Hit’s the high points on everything I was looking for. Lord knows I’ve been looking and looking. Frankly I was seriously surprised to find this opportunity.
I kind of stumbled across it when I was looking for somewhere for fitness and weight loss support. I looked at weight watchers, I looked at Ivillage, I looked at ediets, I looked at T.O.P.S., I looked at overeaters anonymous, and I considered bariatric surgery. There’s a few fitness centers/gym’s within a 50 mile radius of where I live. But frankly its nuts to try to get there in the winter when the storms roll in. Between working on line and working with my kennels taking out hours to go to a gym just isn’t happening. I live to far out for it to be practical time wise, not to mention the fuel usage.
So I started looking for workout DVDs. Team Beachbody has some primo workouts. Effective and fun. As in not boring. Hip Hop Abs, P90 X, Slim in 6, Turbo Jam just to name a few. Wow and how.
I found what I was looking for. 10 pounds down so far. 140 to go.
I was worried about having flab hanging as I lost weight. I don’t think I am going to have much of a problem with that with the workouts. It is going to be such a relief to only be carrying the weight of one person around, instead of 2. I can already feel the difference in my abs and the muscles up my back. Frankly it’s great to be rebuilding my strength too.
Gotta get some zzzzs

Good Morning To Ya!

I'm feeling much better. Was feeling and looking pretty scary cruddy. Face swelled up...eyes all red like pissed off stoplights.. nearly swelled shut. Yes I went to the doctor. I'm already on allergy stuff... so she tried steroids and antibiotics. It hurt to close my eyes... especially my right eye... not any more. What a relief.
I stepped on the scale this morning. I had gained up to 299 lbs on my scale. He He… 7 pounds down. 292 lbs on that same scale this morning. 7 Pounds down! I’m losing fat… Good by fat… rat-a-tat-tat… Actually part of that's probably swelling going down. Frankly I don't care... it's that much less weight I have to carry around. My hands aren't swelled anymore either.
Work out routine… isometrics in the car to and from the airport. Actually that helps to keep me awake on that 400 mile commute.
Work out routine… isometrics in the car to and from the airport. Actually that helps to keep me awake on that 400 mile commute. Yard work, kennel work, … want to get on the elliptical, red exerciser, and get going with oxycise again. I like the way lifting weights makes me feel. No not initially but I like the results and the way it makes me feel to have my strength building again.
This has been a loooonnnngggg recovery processs… happily I can finally see and feel progress. Have a way to go… to get my body to the physically fit state I want it in. But I’m on my way.
Building the snow fences, kennel cottages, decks, running yards, … blank spot… I lost the word for the slatted shades.. I’m looking forward to trying my hand at some walkways and furniture too. It’s a productive creative workout… lol… rather than only hitting the bow-flex … don’t get me wrong… I love the bow-flex.
I bought a signature tree the other day. No the tree is not called a signature tree… by that I mean it is a tree to stand by itself in the center of the circle drive. I believe it’s an Austrian Pine… could be an Eastern Pine. I knew but forgot. I’ll check where I bought it. I love those big craggy evergreen trees…
I’m going to plant it and put a windbreak/ snow fence on the southwest and northwest side of it. As well as put a little fence around it to keep the rabbits from eating it’s bark.
Bought a few tomato and pepper plants and a couple of squash. And some landscape fabric… thank you very much. I’m not dealing with the weeds this year …not like I have before.

It wasn’t just his coat that was beautiful… he’s a wonderful loving spirit…
I’ve been working on my main page… as well as The Arfing News… Puppy pictures going up… beautiful little hairballs… I started the great spring hair off Friday after I came home from DIA (airport) . I took a bucket of hair off of Nasty Boy with the slicker brush. Those work sooooo nice… just don’t drag it across their skin. He has a lot more hair that needs pulled… I imagine I pulled about half of what needs to come out. I think I’ll work that way… Remove what’s already loosened … leave the rest till it releases. Much easier on my happy hairballs and myself as well. David (hubby) goes on vacation tomorrow. Dad is coming for a visit from Minnesota mid month… Gotta go run the mama hairballs… and do basic kennel chores… then jump back on this computer and work on site … RobbinsRun:Living the Dream

bit the bullet and got on the scale

Ok I got on the scale this morning… it said 297 lbs. went for a walk with hubby and Min Min yesterday evening after supper. We used to do that quite a bit when we lived in town. It was a nice stroll. Although the mosquitoes are coming out. They weren’t after me so much, but they sure went after David.
Well I hadn’t planned on a 2 pound gain this week. Frankly I could have done without that. The question is how I lose fat in a healthy manner. What can I do right this week… this day… this minute in my quest for a healthy body.
Heat gald is a bit miserable. Any input as to how to heal that up would be greatly appreciated. I’m using some stuff which I do not have in front of me…and can’t remember how to spell… hope it works…
Scent free antiperspirant works pretty well in some areas… gotta run… getting pretty warm out and kennel care is calling my name…
I actually do know what happened last week… I allowed some emotional stuff to trigger an eating free for all… so what do I ask myself this week… how do I deal with stress in a healthy productive manner.
